ALIBABA SEEKS PRESENCE IN MALTA "TO CONTRIBUTE TO ITS TECHNOLOGY PLATFORM"

Yeming Wang, the General Manager of Alibaba Cloud International, said that Alibaba sees Malta’s industry as very unique as the Government is open for business and ready to embrace new innovation. 

“Alibaba wants to be in Malta to contribute with its technology platform together with the economy’s innovative perception,” Mr Wang said at the Alibaba Technology Networking Event, which served as an opportunity for Alibaba Cloud International - a world-renowned provider of a comprehensive suite of global cloud computing services and data technology –to introduce itself to the local gaming industry while expressing its intentions for future collaboration with the Maltese Government and the Maltese local industry.

Parliamentary Secretary for Financial Services, Digital Economy and Innovation, Silvio Schembri, said that Alibaba could be an important contributor to Malta’s e-commerce strategy, helping local and foreign investors to increase their visibility globally.

 “The presence of Alibaba Cloud International tonight shows that the work done so far within our digital economy is attracting big companies that want to have a presence in Malta,” Mr Schembri said.  

Joseph Cuschieri, Chairman of Malta Gaming Authority, said that he was delighted that Alibaba Group had chosen to participate in Malta’s technological development. “With their cutting-edge data technologies, advanced cloud platforms, big data solutions and artificial intelligence capabilities, they will surely add value to Malta’s ecosystem which will be beneficial to the gaming industry but also the whole digital economy,” Mr Cuschieri said.
