STRONG ECONOMIC GROWTH EXPECTED FOR THE NEXT THREE YEARS – CENTRAL BANK

Economic growth over the next three years is expected to remain strong, although slightly lower than 2017, according to the most recent forecast by the Central Bank of Malta.

The forecast showed an upward revision on growth when compared to the forecast released a few months ago. According to the Central Bank, growth was stronger in the sectors of private consumption and net exports.

SHAREHOLDERS FROM 165 DIFFERENT NATIONS HAVE COMPANIES REGISTERED IN MALTA

30,696 companies with foreign shareholding are registered in Malta, with shareholders coming from 165 different nations (out of a total of 195), according to a response to a Parliamentary Question by Prime Minister Joseph Muscat.

Dr Muscat was replying to a Parliamentary Question by shadow speaker for the economy Claudio Grech.

95% of Maltese satisfied with their life

Life is good in Malta – at least for 95% of those who live here, with 30% saying they were 'very' satisfied with the lives they lead.

Malta was in fifth place, with Denmark at the top with a 97% satisfaction rating. It was one of 11 member states with a satisfaction rating above 90%.

Greece was at the bottom of the list, with just 42% saying they were happy with their lives.

Salaries in financial services sector reached €353 million in 2016

Salaries paid out to persons employed in the financial services sector in Malta peaked at €353 million in 2016, an increase of over 56% when compared to 2010, a report commissioned by the Malta Financial Services Authority has found.

10,345 persons were employed in the sector last year, earning an average annual wage of €34,122.

Mcast to host European Gaming Institute of Malta

he European Gaming Institute of Malta (EGIM) was officially launched as a joint venture between the Malta Gaming Authority and Mcast.

The aim of the EGIM is to nurture more talent within the gaming sector and the creation of long-term careers by means of educational programmes which will enhance the sustainability and growth of the workforce within the industry.

The MGA will support the development of the educational programmes, but will also enable the transfer of the industry’s knowledge to Mcast.
